This place is recognized as a key paleontological site where huge creatures lived millions of years ago, during the Eocene period.
In recent years, the Lost Canyon of Ocucaje has become a popular destination for trekking enthusiasts seeking new routes in the Peruvian desert. It was discovered in 2011 by a group of local people who, in their attempt to reach it, got lost in the ravines.
When they finally managed to find the right path, they decided to call it “Lost Canyon of Ocucaje” in honor of all the people who ever tried to discover this unique place.
